Oliver

August 2, 20006 - Oliver was adopted by Susan, Steven &  family who live on the ocean (and Oliver loves to swim!) January 11, 2007, Susan writes: "Oliver has adjusted quite well to our house.  He's gone from a subdued puppy to a very typical lovable rottie.  He has had surgery on his left hind leg (femoral head & neck excision).  The ball on leg was rubbing against his hip bone.  It's like night & day as far as activity level now. He's great with both my kids & the cats tolerate him.  He still can't understand why they won't play with him and he won't give up.  I keep checking the other dogs you have thinking about a playmate for him but he's generally never alone at home.  There's alway someone who can give him some attention & play. Everyone adores him"

pdate Oliver's Story

Update 7/27/06, after his orthopedic evaluation.
Oliver is a 9 month old rottie boy who loves everyone and everything. Seen daily carrying around his favorite toys (he has many favorites), this boy loves life as it is. Oliver is house trained, crate trained, rides well in the car and knows basic commands. All this in a young boy.

Oliver, however, was born with moderate-to-severe hip displaysia. He has been Xray'd and had his orthopedic visit, and the results are conclusive: The BEST treatment for Oliver is supplements, correct diet, low impact exercise (swimming, for example, something his foster mom says he LOVES!) and keeping him lean. With this diagnosis and prescription, Oliver will lead a normal and healthy life. Oliver has no idea that he would be labeled "disabled". He plays with other dogs like any other boy his age. As long as Oliver is not in pain, he does not need surgery. He climbs stairs, runs in the yard, jumps in the car, and even will steal something valuable off of hte counter. He has no physical limitations. Supplements, diet and exercise should keep him pain free (note from Dale: I have an 11 yr old rottie girl who was diagnosed similarly at 2 1/2 yrs. She is just starting to slow down in the last year).

Oliver lives with other dogs ranging from 9 to 100 lbs, cats, and LOVES children. He is as bomb-proof as you can get for a young rottie boy.

The full orthopedic evaluation will be provided to the adoptive family. A special adoption program is being created for him, which we will provide to his family. Please come and meet Oliver. You will NOT be disappointed.

Oliver's foster mom reports: "He is such a character and boy does he LOVE the water! And of course it is great exercise for him. It was all I could do to get him out of the river. He would jump in WITH the current and then swim back against it. He preferred this to swimming in the calm sandy swimming hole we have. He did this like 3 or 4 times until I made him get out as I was afraid he might go to far down the river. Don't worry - I have a long leash on him that I let him drag."

June 2006 - Meet Oliver. Oliver is 8 months old, sweet, affectionate and loveable. Oliver is good with all people, other dogs and cats. He is house trained, crate trained, and just an all-out nice guy. Oliver also has severe hip displaysia. This adorable man, correctly marked and docked, has a handsome face and loving personality. He doesn't deserve the fate his owner left him to when he allowed him to be picked up by animal control in an urban area.
