Alyssa, now known as Chance

After six weeks in foster care, Alyssa - who answers better to Chance - is ready for her new adoptive home! Chance has worked hard to overcome a lifetime of shelter living and she now fits into home-living quite comfortably. Her ambition to please has enabled her to break her bad habits quickly and has mastered basic commands.

Chance has an insatiable appetite for toys. She can typically be found curled up somewhere, slowly and systematically destroying another toy. She goes absolutely crazy over a laser pointer, her least-costly and longest lasting gift, and her all-time favorite is anything that can be fashioned into a game of tug-of-war, be it old t-shirts or a thick piece of rope - or if carlessly left around, clothing. This amusing girl has a few tricks of her own: When she empties the water bowl, she'll carry it out to us and toss it in our direction to request a refill. She'll also occasionally "bury" her special treats, nudging pillows with her nose to cover a piece of rawhide, then patting down the site to make it seem less conspicuous.

Chance has spent these past weeks not just with us, but also with our 7-year-old female American Pit Bull Terrier and after a few scuffles, they have grown to be inseparable playmates. She's been simply curious about the cat and hasn't shown signs of aggression towards the cat.

In spite of how well she's acclimated to life with us and our pets, we think Chance would be best suited to an active owner without other animals; homes with a male or more submissive dog would be second best. We would not recommend her for a family with small children due primarily to the puppy-like spirit in a 50 lb. package. While Chance eats, plays, and rests in perfect harmony with our dog, we think it's important to remember that like any breed, Pit Bull Terriers have a breed history. They were bred specifically against harming humans (this is critical for obvious reasons), but they were bred to kill various other animals for different reasons throughout the years. It can only take a minute of unsupervised play gone wrong for serious injuries to occur with a dog so genetically powerful.

In foster care, we take this seriously and never leave the dogs alone together without first crating Chance. We really want to stress the appropriate consideration for homes with other pets and/or children, but also that Chance has proven herself worthy of her name and of her ability to complete her perfect home. We'll be at the next meet & greet event, waiting to meet you! . Alyssa is in boarding in New York state, just over the boarder from Pittsfield MA. Please fill out our adoption application if you are interested in any of our dogs
