November 30, 2010 - Mecca went to the bridge today. She succumbed to lymphoma and went peacefully, without suffering. Most heartbroken is her foster family - the ones who loved her most. Thank you to Karen, Dave and Dillon.

October 20, 2010 - we now know why Mecca was really surrendered: because she has lymphoma. We are sure her owner knew this... They usually do when they unceremoniously dump a dog. Mecca will live out her remaining days with her foster family...

This beautiful 3-4 year old, 100 lb. rottie girl was surrendered because of "owner allergies". This absolutely sweet, affectionate girl has no idea why she was sitting in an urban shelter in New York city, but is making her way into your home in northern New England!

The volunteers wrote: she's probably housetrained as she waited to go outside and then went FOREVER, and that she's very sweet, though confused and a little down at being brought here after being in a home. This three year old, 100 lb., gorgeous representative of her breed however, is a treasure, and anyone who loves rotties, knows when you find one with a sweet temperament, you hold onto them. It's sad to see Mecca on her walks, looking for the family who brought her here, she looks off in every direction as if she expects to round the corner and take her home.

Mecca passed her evaluation with stellar marks. She is extremely people social and greets other dogs properly. She shares her food and toys and is polite on lead. Mecca should not live with cats or small dogs.
