Sammy is a sweet boy that is looking for a new home through no fault of his own. One of his owners developed severe allergies and asthma shortly after getting Sammy, and after trying everything they could do, they have come to the heartbreaking decision that they need to find him a new home. Sammy is about 3 years old and has been living in his current home in New Hampshire since he was a puppy. His mom was pregnant when she was rescued from an abandoned building in NYC. She and her babies were all taken in by a rescue and placed in new homes.
Sammy is a very loving guy and wants nothing more than to be with other people. He thinks he is an oversized lap dog and loves to snuggle. He is pretty lazy, and lives to eat and sleep! He also loves to be outside swimming (he will swim for hours if you let him!), walking, or just basking in the sun. He is very smart and learns new things easily. Sammy has completed his Level I and Level II obedience classes and has passed his Canine Good Citizen test, although he could use a refresher.
He loves other dogs and currently lives with one, but he can be dominant if the other dog will let him get away with it. However, he has no aggression at all towards other animals. Sammy has not been around very many cats, so we are unsure if he would be ok in a house with them. He may, with some training and with the right cat. He is also good with children and is very gentle. He has never lived with children, but he has been around many of all ages in his life. He is still a young dog, so he can be a little excitable and doesn’t know his strength sometimes.
Sammy will let you take anything from him, including his food, treats, and toys. He doesn’t bark unless someone comes to the door or rings the doorbell. He is also house and crate trained. He is crated during the day, but free at night. He is not destructive in the house…unless its something stuffed or foamy! He does like to eat things outside (sticks, acorns), but he will drop them if you tell him to.
Sammy is very fit and about 50-55 lbs, but he still looks very much like a puppy. He is a silly and funny boy, that will make you laugh all the time. Sammy really is a sweet dog that deserves to find the right forever home and continue to be spoiled and loved. He is up to date on his vaccines, neutered, microchipped and ready to go to a fully committed family. Please fill out our adoption application if you are interested in any of our dogs
