Available Rottweilers

UPDATE - Owner Reclaimed
Chance

Chance A642881 is a 10 yr. old male Rottweiler who came in as a stray. I don't want to go into what happens to older dogs who arrive as strays to high volume urban shelters. This man does not deserve to spend his last days looking through the bars as people pass him by. 64 pounds. No behavior concerns noted, just an older guy. Chance is available if you act quickly through the Center for Animal Care & Control in Manhattan. He is known as A642881. If you are interested, please act quickly. He won't have many days because of his age and breed. Please call Jess Van Brunt at Office: 212-722-4939 x225 or email at jvanbrunt@nycacc.org ASAP!!!

Chevy

Think of every good thing you have heard about Rottweiler's and you will have Chevy, a long-legged goofball who brings a smile to the face of those who adore the antics of young, silly, large breed dogs. A strapping 89 pounds, Chevy is actually underweight and needs to put on some pounds for maximum health. Chevy was blessed to be in his former home, a temporary haven of sorts, because his original family could not keep him. However, due to the size restriction in the homeowner association rules, Chevy exceeded the 35 pound limit and was asked to leave. Chevy is a 2-3 year old Rottweiler/shepherd mix with a terrific profile that gives lots of insights into his personality and lifestyle preferences. To date Chevy has always shared his life with another dog, and loves to horse around and play with one large enough and tolerant enough to engage in and enjoy Chevy's pesky little brother behavior. The only combo that is unlikely to work is another young buck who may vie for top dog status.

Chevy adores people, swimming, accompanying his owner horseback riding, camping and riding in the car. While his view of cats and small animals is not to do them harm, his desire to chase and pester is relentless and will make the lives of cats, ferrets or other small family members miserable. Please, no cats for Chevy! When left alone Chevy counter surfs, and, given his height and long legs, this is a piece of cake! In his former home Chevy was crated when left alone to avoid mishaps and naughty behavior. While Chevy is reported to like toys such as tennis balls, plush toys and plastic bottles, in the shelter Chevy prefers to play with people over toys.

Chevy is motivated by food and will work fairly hard to get what he wants. This guy will benefit immensely from a manners and training class, simply because his size and exuberance makes him a bit unruly. Besides, every Rottweiler with impeccable manners and social skills is a gold star for this much maligned breed. On leash Chevy is a bucking bronco indoors, but once outside on our walking trail he is well-mannered yet very strong. For the past few months Chevy has lived with 8 & 13 year old children. He is said to be friendly, excited and adoring of them, although here again his size and exuberance will topple toddlers and the elderly. At present Chevy is highly invested in his food, and tends to gulp quickly when his bowl is approached. While this may be due in part to the fact that he is very thin, new owners will need to monitor this behavior and get Chevy used to the fact that people are the dispensers of all food. It is always wise to remind and supervise children about personal space when dogs are eating their meal or a bone. Chevy is one terrific dog with a solid foundation of good humor, socialization and great experiences with people. Life with a large breed dog is always an adventure, especially one as funny and active as Chevy. With a face like his, the fact that he loves to cuddle, and with time invested in training and exercise, this boy will quickly become a beloved family member. Chevy is in Maine at the Humane Society of Knox County.

Margo

Katrina Survivor.

Margo is a beautiful, energetic fun loving girl. She is probably the BEST foster dog I have ever had..If I had a bigger house I would definitely keep her!!!! She likes to go outside to run & play and would like a playmate to do that with but when she come in she has good house manners. She doesn't beg and is very content just laying on her bed chewing her bone. Crates up without a peep. She can be a bit of an escape artist so a fenced in secure yard would be best for her. She gets along well with all other dogs, just needs to meet them slowly. Margo is also very sweet and really doesn't bark very much. Anyone who meets her comments on what a good dog she is... She is a very unique character! You can't help but smile & laugh at her as she is a great companion! ohh, no cats for Margo!"
Please fill out our adoption application if you are interested in any of our dogs. Please visit www.4theloveofdog.org. She is currently in New Hampshire.

Stephen

4 year old Rottweiler who is true to his breed. His temperament nearly matches the AKC description "The Rottweiler is basically a calm, confident and courageous dog with a self-assured aloofness that does not lend itself to immediate and indiscriminate friendships. A Rottweilier is self-confident and responds quietly and with a wait-and-see attitude to influences in his environment..." Stephen also loves running, playing ball and knows his good manners so much that he will offer his paw! Stephen's affectionate side comes out with a good scratch behind his ears. Stephen has a special place in his heart for the ladies, shown by the way he wiggles his nubby tail. Stephen also likes to be the center of attention so no other pets please or children-adults only. Stephen is up to date on all shots and neutered. Please contact Jean Ellard at 617-823-3461 or belini41@hotmail.com

Rico

MAJESTIC YOUNGSTER: Rico is a young purebred Rotti who was rescued by our Humane Law Enforcement Officers. He was found severely underweight, and brought to the ASPCA for some TLC and good home cookin'. We figure he's around 10-11 months old. (He's quite young, because he certainly hasn't grown into his big puppy paws yet.) Rico loves people, although some men frighten him and he may bark -- briefly -- to keep them away. When out for a walk, this handsome young fellow is always in a hurry to get where he's going. He's interested in playing with other dogs, but it may take him time to learn doggie play. Because of his size (yup, he's big) and youthfulness, Rico would feel more comfortable in a home with adults. He's very eager to learn basic manners and to be housebroken. He needs a very active owner who will keep him well exercised and will train him. Oh, yes, his owner should also be ready to give Rico lots of stroking and cuddling. Rico's just a baby at heart. Rico is at the ASPCA in New York City. Esther is interviewing perspective families for Rico. Any applications that come through on this web site for Rico will be sent directly to Esther.

Onyx

Onyx A642213 - 5 yr. old female Rottie. 105 pounds. Owner surrender. Owners say she’s housebroken and loves children but doesn’t like other dogs. She’s quite a chubby girl, but sweet. Complete evaluation on file - she passed easily and would love a family of her own. Onyx is available through the Center for Animal Care & Control in Manhattan. She is known as A642213. If you are interested, please act quickly. Please contact Jane at JaneatHAI@aol.com <JaneatHAI@aol.com>

Honestly - we know there are more dogs out there who need homes. Each month, an email is sent to at least 25 folks who regularly place dogs and I publish the responses. If you regularly keep in contact with a shelter in the North East and want to add a dog regularly to our list, please email me privately and I will contact you each month for your submission!
