Roxie

New Year's Resolution for Roxie: Get her groove back! Some dogs carry the weight of the world on their shoulders, and Roxie seems to carry more than her share. A dignified female Rottweiler, Roxie was found as a stray in Portland. Judging by her figure, most of Roxie's 3-4 years have been spent tending to litter after litter of puppies; she is worn out! Roxie's coat is in poor condition, her eyes are sad, yet she has the determination and downright stubborn streak of someone who has had to take care of things herself. Roxie is an old soul, and her ideal home will be one in which she has a permanent place on the couch, a leisurely stroll through the neighborhood or woods several times a day, sunny windows, and people who will make her happiness and well-being a priority. Very much a couch potato, Roxie does not really want to play, but will happily watch if you would like to do so. She has little patience with other dogs, and will not likely fare well in a multi-dog home. Roxie is overweight, and is not a textbook example of the confirmation of a Rotti! Incredibly strong on leash, Roxie is not the dog for the frail or unsteady on their feet. When left alone Roxie will jump up to investigate items on the counter but then settles down. She has no idea what a crate is, and does not become comfortable when left alone. It does not appear that mischief-making is part of Roxie's persona- she is far too dignified and likely has excellent house manners. Because of Roxie's unknown history, she is not a dog the staff will place in homes with children under 12. Chaos, commotion and too much noise are all stressors for Roxie, who really wants to lead the pampered life and be the soul mate of one or two people! Roxie is available through the Animal Refuge League, 449 Stroudwater St., Westbrook Maine - Phone: 207-854-9771

Bart

Hi! My name Bart and I am about 5 years old (but you'd never know it from the way I play!) I'm looking for someone to share their home with me. See I grew up in a nasty place called a "Back Yard Breeder." He treated me horribly keeping me tied outside, hitting me, and not feeding me very well until this nice man from Animal Control came and took me away. I guess I was pretty sick because he brought me to a very nice vets office where I have been getting medicine for something called Heart Worm. The people that work there say that you would never know I was sick from my attitude. See I just love attention and to snuggle! Belly rubs are the best! And something else really cool are these round bouncey things that the people call "Tennis Balls." I really like to play with them!! Before comming here I only had rocks to play with (which wasn't very good for my teeth).

People from the rescue came to see me and said I was a very good boy who just needs to learn to trust again before I give all my love. I weigh about 80 pounds which doesn't sound so big to me but they seem to think so. Especially when I go for walks and pull on the leash. I'm just trying to see everything I can! I'm learning that I will see more if I walk next to the person. I also know "sit" and "wait" and I go right into my kennel when asked. I heard the people saying something about me being clean in my kennel so they think I am housebroken. I don't know since I've never been in a house. There is a nice cat here at the office too. I've met him a couple times and we get along fine so I could live with cats if you have them! I used to live with a really sweet female rottweiler that was taken with me. I think I would like to live with another dog especially a girl.

So if you think I would fit into your home or you would like to know more about me you can contact Nicki at nmduda@aol.com or Holly at holly1223@optonline.net Bart is in CT.

Majenta

Majenta is an 18 month old spayed female Rottweiler. Majenta weighs 75 to 80 pounds and appears to be of medium energy level. Majenta's previous family surrendered her to the shelter because they were moving and could not take her along. Majenta is a good girl that would love to go through obedience classes with her adoptive family. During her evaluation by a Rottweiler Rescue volunteer.....she learned to walk nicely on leash and not pull, she does know the command SIT and did have food focus after investigating the outdoor surroundings and smells.

Majenta would love a fenced in yard to burn off energy and would like to spend time with her person in the house and out of the weather. She is extremely gentle with treats, clean in the house, and non distructive. Majenta has lived with children and should do well with respectful children and dogs about her size. Majenta would do best in a home with NO CATS. Majenta is at the Animal Welfare Society in W. Kennebunk ME

Nino

After ten years of loyalty to his family, Nino was unceremoniously dumped at a high volume New York shelter. Why? "Moving to Florida." Didn't they think that he deserved as much of a warm paradise as they did, while he kissed them in the lobby of the shelter as they dumped him off? Today Nino sits in a foster home wondering where they went, and why he didn't go too. While he thinks that his foster family is nice enough, he longs for his own family - whether it be the old one (who doesn't deserve a dog as loyal as he was) or a new one (who he will show devotion to). Nino is a stunning man, with correct markings and a docked tail. He has impeccable house manners, is quiet and social. He gets along with dogs of all sizes and genders. His surrender paperwork says he has lived with cats and children (ages not provided). In foster care he lives with several other dogs and has not met the resident felines - but he will. Nino seeks the loyalty of a family equal to what he will provide - one who will walk him a few times daily and allow him to watch Animal Planet on his comfy bed. 1/21/05 - Nino had a series of senior tests done when he was neutered, and was deemed "very healthy" and his bloodwork was "Great!". He has an ear infection and needed some damaged teeth removed, and now wants to find a place to settle down for the rest of his life. .  Please email Nino's foster mom for more information or visit their web site at www.4theloveofdog.org.

Duncan

Duncan is a 3 year old neutered male that has run into a problem. Most of the time we hear stories of the dog becomming dangerous around the new baby right? Well this is a case of the baby being dangerous to the dog.

Duncan currently lives with a 2 year old and a 1 month old. He loves his children so much but unfortunately can not handle the noise and activity that comes with them. Duncan has started to lose weight, lose hair, and can be found in his crate shaking whenever the baby cries or the toddler plays too loudly. Because his family loves him so much they have decided to find him a quieter home to live in.

Duncan is a wonderful boy. He is completely house and crate trained, has gone through several levels of obdience classes and obtained his CGC, TT, and TDI. Duncan has not met a person or dog that he doesn't like. He is wonderful in large public situations greeting everyone with nub wags and butt wiggles. As I said Duncan loves kids but would need to live in a household that has older children if any. He would definately like to be with another dog but would enjoy all the attention of a family to himself as well. He's not overly active but does enjoy going for a nice walk. It's not necessary though as long as he can be with his family. He is VERY people oriented. Duncan is the type of dog that has energy when you want a good romp and a couch potato when you don't.

If you think Duncan would like to be a part of your family please contact his current mom Holly at holly1223@optonline.net . Duncan is in CT

Cassie

This 18 month old rottie-shepard mix is waiting for an active, suburban family to live life with. Surrendered to a high-volume shelter in Manhattan for no good reason, Cassie passed rottweiler rescue's temperament evaluation. She knows several commands, can rivel any outfielder with her catching abilities, and shares her toys nicely. Cassie is being placed by a private rescuer in Manhattan. You can meet her by contacting Jane at janeathai@aol.com

Gidget

Gidget longs to be a family dog again. Discarded by her family when she ":got pregnant", she was found in a Brooklyn parking lot giving birth. Imagine this love sitting at your feett watching your favorite TV program! The Gidge is impeccably housebroken and houseworthy. She has NEVER been destructive and does not counter surf. At 4 to 5 years old, she is way past the puppy stuff, and is a most responsible and affectionate partner. Gidget would benefit from being part of an active family who would join her for long walks to shed those pesky ":puppy pounds" gained from carrying too many litters. Our girl LOVES to take long walks, play ball, and is happiest just being with YOU! Now spayed and UTD on shots, Gidget is interviewing prospective families from her foster home in northern N.J. She would welcome living with well-behaved children and a calm older dog, but should not be considered a friend to cats. Phone her foster Mom, Linda, at (973)812-9749 or e-mail ComanchesMom1@netzero.net to meet Gidget. View more at Paws for Love.
