Available Rottweilers

Chubby

Chubby is a handsome, adult male Rottie who loves people and other large dogs. He has lived at the shelter since March of 2005, and he is tired of the cement and chain-link environment . Chubby would like to run through a grassy yard and live with a family he can call his own. He would benefit from a course of obedience training, since he is very strong on lead. This usually indicates a dog who has been tied out and forgotten. Although Chubby has passed Rottie rescue's temperament test, it may be months before he can find an open foster home, and he is really eager to relocate to a "forever home NOW! He is # 32985 residing in kennel # 86 at the Associated Humane Society at the Associated Humane Society on Evergreen Avenue in Newark NJ. Please visit her there!

All pets at this shelter are up-to-date on shots and will be altered and micro-chipped upon adoption. We are open 7 days a week from 12pm-5:30pm; for directions call 973-824-7080. There is an adoption donation required. As part of our adoption process, we must have proof of residency. Homeowners must show proof of ownership; landlord approval is required for renters before an adoption can be approved.

Amy Rae

Four year old Amy has been sitting in the shelter since last August. Tagged "rescue is taking", she was passed over by potential adoptors as well as the euthanasia list. On our last visit, we noticed that she was *still* there. Despite being a bit institutionalized, she passed her evaluation a second time and now is looking for a forever home. Amy is gorgeous - beautiful face, compact build (although she gained some weight in the shelter. Not much to do there besides eat, sleep, bark). Affectionate, loving, responsive, playful. Amy lives harmoniously with other dogs, but will do best in a home without small animals. She has agility potential once those pesky pounds have disappeared. She is smart and eager to please

To learn more about Amy, please visit www.4theloveofdog.org. She is currently in New Hampshire.

Rex

Rex is in a foster home. He is about 15 months old, has fabulous manners and is a very quiet rottie with a long tail to wag. He is good with all people including younger children; he likes other dogs once he gets to know them. Rex has been neutered, is up to date on shots, heartworm negative and on preventative. Rex is loving and sweet; he is a wonderful rottie, rescued from a shelter in MS. Adoption fee is $100; anyone interested in scheduling a visit, contact Leslie: QueenB534@aol.com

Rufus

Rufus is a very sweet 1 year old Rottweiler! Rufus is UTD on vaccines, HW neg and on preventative, he is also Micro-chipped and is neutered. Rufus is a big boy and is great with other dogs, both males and females! This big puppy loves to play and would be great in a home with other dogs and a yard to run in. He does need some work on his basic commands so an OB class with this big love would be beneficial. Rufus is a very loving boy !! He is available through Majesty Rottweiler Rescue in New York, or contact Krissie if you would like more information.

Josie

Josie is a special girl who deserves and equally special family. This 12 to 15 month-old spayed Rottie with the natural tail came from a neglectful family who tied her outside and allowed her collar to become embedded in her neck! Through it all, Josie retained her stable Rottie temperament and her infectious sense of humor. Her gazelle impression is not to be missed!! Josie delights in racing through the yard kicking up her heels in the sheer joy of running free!! Now, after conquering life-threatening pneumonia and enduring the painful surgical removal of her collar, Josie is at last ready to get in with her mission in life. . .to make people happy. Our lucky girl needs a family who is dedicated to improving her house manners and teaching her to walk like a lady on the leash. She is doing well using a special harness called a Sporn. Josie likes dogs and cats (although she needs to tone her enthusiasm to live peacefully with most cats) and she LOVES children. We recommend at this time that she be placed in a home as an only dog. Although she likes other dogs, she has little experience interacting with them and she would torment any dog in her household. She has a tail obsession, and at first tried to pull the stub of a Rottie in her foster home. . now she is playing with the tails of long-tailed dogs she romps with! Never aggressive, but very ANNOYING!!! If you feel that your family could accommodate this dynamo and help her mature into the wonderful Rottie representative she was always meant to be, please complete the online adoption form. Josie is fostered in northern N.J. and will entertain her friends at the Wayne PetsMart for the next few Sundays. If you are in the area, please stop by to meet her. Josie up to date with routine shots, already house trained, altered. Phone her foster Mom, Linda, at (973) 812-9749 or e-mail ComanchesMom1@netzero.net to meet Josie. View more at Paws for Love.

Leo

This is the story of Leo, a very young 7 year old pet of a young armed services family. If you know of anyone who can open their hearts to Leo please contact the owner whose tel number is listed at the end of this story. A young father stationed in Saudi Arabia has a wife, a daughter and a Rottweiler on Long Island. They live in an apartment that is extremely small (less than 500 square feet). In order for Leo to turn around when eating, he has to back up. Their landlord is having problems with a neighbor with 15 cats who complains when Leo barks. In addtion the family is planning on joining the father overseas

When the mother and daughter will go overseas they would love to take their dog with them. Unfortunately this is impossible. Obtaining the necessary paperwork, quarantining the dog and the restrictions on housing a breed such as Rottweilers are forcing them to leave him behind. This is a horrible situation for anyone.

A little bit about Leo:: Leo's age may seem old, but he has the energy of a puppy - around people he wiggles and shakes - just estatic for attention. He is 103 lbs, neutered and healthy. He is up to date on all his shots, on heartworm preventative and microchipped.

He was raised for the first three years of his life with a cat and currently lives with a four year old child. He allows her to poke and play with him as much as she wishes. Leo truly loves people. He will take all the attention anyone will give him and deserves a home that will give him a lot.

Leo gets along well with his female Pitbull neighbor - they play together outside without a problem. He has never been with male dogs so that is probably not a good option. Leo food guards. He will allow his owners to take food from him, but because of this, we are recommending a family with no small children.

Leo attended Petco training classes and know his commands: sit, down, stay (sometimes) :)

In closing Leo is a dog who deserves to live with someone who will love him dearly. His family will be devastated to lose him, but there really are no other options. If you are interested or know some who is please contact Willow at 631 289-2721 or 631 418-4500.
