Carson

Carson has been hanging out in the shelter since January 2005. Yup, you read that right. There's a reason he has not met the fate of many of his kind there... HE IS A GOOD DOG. Despite needing a bath, this 1-2 yr old rottie mix boy has passed his temperament evaluation, has basic manners, and wants a home with a family!  Carson is known as He is #19325 residing in kennel #86 at the Associated Humane Society at the Associated Humane Society on Evergreen Avenue in Newark NJ. Please visit him there!

All pets at this shelter are up-to-date on shots and will be altered and micro-chipped upon adoption. We are open 7 days a week from 12pm-5:30pm; for directions call 973-824-7080. There is an adoption donation required. As part of our adoption process, we must have proof of residency. Homeowners must show proof of ownership; landlord approval is required for renters before an adoption can be approved.

Bear

This awesome five year old rottie boy is looking to meet you! Bear was found as a stray and has worked his way into everyone's hearts. He has a beautiful face and a blocy head, and his nub wiggles non-stop. Bear gets along with people of all sizes and genders, but because his background is unknown, would do best with kids over 10. He lives harmoniously with both male & female dogs of all sizes. He is appropriate with dog-savvy cats, but should be supervised until everyone is comfortable. Bear should also live with another dog as he does not like being lonely. Bear's foster mom wrote:

"Bear is a typical young male. He is VERY people focused and snuggly. Velcro would be the best way to describe him!!!!!!!Bear would do best in a setting where he is not left home alone a lot or perhaps with someone whom stays at home or works from home. He is a smart boy, knows most all his basic commands and has pretty good house manners. He would do best with a female dog as a companion. He gets along with other males but would prefer to be the only male. He is active and spunky & would do well in continuing training. He also seems to enjoy water, as I asked him once to get in the tub for a bath & he did just that. Climbed in & sat like an angel, waited patiently while I scrubbed him head to toe! What a difference a little soap & water can make. Now, he just needs to gain a little weight! Bear would be a great addition to someones family. "

Roxie

Roxy is in need of immediate placement. She is an extra large(admittly overweight at this time), purebred rottweiler, about 3 years old, who is very friendly and plays well with other dogs. She is protective in nature and is also possessive of her toys, we would like someone to work with her on this. She is currently receiving leash training to improve walking on lead. Roxy is very sweet and inquisitive. She is the most affectionate when inside the house when there are few distractions and she can focus all of her attention on you. She loves to give kisses and to have her tummy scratched. If Roxy does not find a new home or rescue she will be put to sleep....the reason is listed in the paragraph below.

Roxy has been at the Shelter for almost a year. She was adopted and returned twice. The first time was because she is too rough with small children (she is a large dog). I do have a written letter from her former owner stating that Roxy was wonderful she just played too rough with the small children and she did regret having to give Roxy back. The second time Roxy was returned was because she was adopted by a woman who had several other dogs. The other dogs did not accept Roxy. Because Roxy has been returned twice, it is shelter policy that she can't be adopted out to the general public.

We are looking for someone in rescue to foster Roxy. It must be an established rescue organization. We would like to keep up with her status and also keep her posted online so we can forward all interested parties to her rescuer to help speed the process of her finding a good, loving home. If you are able to help provide a temporary home for Roxy (or if you would like more information on Roxy) PLEASE CLICK HERE TO EMAIL THE PERSON THAT KNOWS ROXY THE BEST....ERIN or phone Erin (914) 886-2294. ROXY IS IN YONKERS, NEW YORK

Savannah

Savannah is an 12 month old female Rottweiler. She is very sweet and very playful. Savannah seems to do well with everyone she meets and loves attention. Savannah does need some work on her obedience training but she is a quick learner and eager to please. Savannah will make a wonderful companion. Savannah will be vaccinated, micro-chipped , HW tested and started on prevention and spayed before adoption.

For more info on Savannah please contact Krissie oF Majesty Rottweiler Rescue (NY Chapter) at witchiewoman1973@yahoo.com or website address: www.MRR.petfinder.org

Thor

Divorce affects everyone in the family, and the most innocent victims include the children and pets. Thor finds himself without his kids and the only home he has known through absolutely NO fault of his own. He patiently waits to meet his new family. This correctly marked and docked, trim 140 pound Rottie man requires an experienced family to offer him structure and the security that he will never face homelessness again! Thor sits and gives paw on command. He loves to be petted and fussed over. A favorite place in his foster home is the bath tub where he "crates" himself! Thor LOVES the water. . .he loves to swim, chase the hose, and get a bath!!! He is well-behaved in the car and walks well on the lead. He enjoys his pig's ears and a good soccer game!!Since he lived as an only dog, Thor would prefer to be the only star in your sky. He is definitely not a candidate for living with small dogs or cats, but a compatible large female dog is not out of the question. Thor also shared his former home with children around 10 years old. Thor accepts treats gently and this lovely boy showed no problem guarding pig's ears, rawhide bones and other goodies. If your experienced, adult family is willing to offer Thor benign leadership he will respect, please e-mail ComanchesMom@optonline.net to meet Thor. View more at Paws for Love.

Nick

Nick is a 1.5 yrs old neutered rottie mix boy. He is up to date on all shots, heartworm negative, and healthy. Nick needs a new home because he does not like some dogs, which include some of the dogs his family "dog sits". He is social with some other dogs. He knows many commands such as sit, stay, wait, down, off, come, shake, roll-over, go lay down. Nick walks well on leash. He waits until he is told that he can eat his food with the command "Alright". He is ok with cats. Nick has a dominant personality and will need a dog-savvy owner. A fenced yard is desirable. Nick is in southern Maine. Contact Nick's foster family in Maine at jodi-fay@idexx.com

Honestly - we know there are more dogs out there who need homes. Each month, an email is sent to at least 25 folks who regularly place dogs and I publish the responses. If you regularly keep in contact with a shelter in the North East and want to add a dog regularly to our list, please email me privately and I will contact you each month for your submission!
