Elle
January 18, 2005 - Elle was adopted today by John, Nicole, Logan the labrador, and their two kids. John writes: "Elle has adjusted quite well in her new environment and is a perfect fit in the household. Logan (our Black Lab) and Elle have become best buddies; and it’s great to see him adjusting so well after being so sad when we lost Zoe (our other Rottweiler). The kids absolutely adore Elle, although my 21 month-old son Jason seems a bit confused and keeps calling her Zoe. Elle is so sweet and gentle that it is hard to believe anyone could part with her. The only issue thus far is that she will sometimes bark at people she does not know. It doesn’t take her very long to warm up to new friends as long as we provide her with plenty of reassurance. We are also working on her manners as it is quite apparent that her training had lapsed. There is little doubt that Elle is very smart and needs to be busy, so we are making sure that we give her a good workout every day. She’s made plenty of new doggie & guardian friends at the park next to our house. We can’t thank you enough for all the good things that you do, saving these wonderful animals. Hopefully we will have some pictures for you soon."
April 2005 update - Elle is doing great and I would have to say that she's quite comfortable with being a member of the [our] household. I only have one picture of the entire family to share (excluding myself behind the camera) which we took after the last major snowfall in early March. Katherine (age 3) has a good grip on Elle, while Nikki holds Jason (age 2) and Logan pose with the snowman we all built. In my last update I mentioned the need to work on Elle's manners and the entire family has been working with her to instill good behavior habits. She is making solid progress, particularly on leashed walks where she does even better than Logan! I have also been working with her off-leash to establish verbal command and have been amazed with her ability to quickly learn the basics (come; sit; stay). Now that the weather is getting better we will start doing more advanced training. Elle has established quite a social network of other dogs and guardians in the neighborhood. Everyone seems amazed at how sweet and well behaved she is with people of all ages and all the other dogs we encounter at the park next to our house. We all still find it hard to fathom how anyone could have given her up for adoption, and are very happy to have her in our family.
Elle
Ms. Elle was surrendered to the shelter because she barked in her apartment. No indication was made of how much Elle barked, or whether she was indoors when she barked or not, but this dog never made a sound during her whole evaluation. Elle has mastered the Rottie Lean, and prefers nothing more than to press her 85 lb. frame against you while getting affection. Elle is very sweet, correctly marked & docked, and waiting for a forever home. Her owners said that she is good with kids and house trained. Elle is good with other medium & large dogs. She was appropriate with a dominant toy breed dog, and further testing should be done to determine whether living with one is acceptable. She was not tested with cats.
