Adoptable Rottweilers from the MidWest join For the Love of Dog in New Hampshire
MidWest Missions
For the Love of Dog helps dogs in the midwest as well the deep south. We have participated in two missions recently (October 2011 and January 2012) saving a total of 35 dogs. Read more about them ... and the dogs.
Nebraska
In September, we were asked to get involved with an over-crowded rottweiler rescue who had more than 70 dogs on the property and had publicly asked for help on Facebook.
We transported 20 dogs over the age of 5 to New England on October 10. Having not visited the facility, I can't speak for the conditions and we are passing judgement on no one.
All of the dogs were examined within 72 hours of arrival, and conditions were documented. All of the dogs showed signs of neglect, the majority of which included dermatitis and eye infections, more than half of them had ear infections, and moderate to severe dental issues.
Currently, 17 of these dogs are in forever homes and the remainder in foster care. Sarge is ready for a forever home, and can't wait to meet you.
Taz was 18 months old when he entered the rescue in Nebraska. Taz is now 10 years old... and has never been acclimated to a house. When we put him into a foster home, he spent the week in panic mode, showing aggression to all family members except his primary care taker. Taz was moved back to the kennel where he is loving life beyond words, and where he will spend the remainder of his life. Upon arrival, our vet indicated that Taz had severe dental disease. Our attempts to care for it aren't working well - and the teeth need to be removed. This will be done on Feb 3.
Jitterbug only spent a few months in this rescue before moving to New England. Jitter has a degeneration in her sacrum area and has moderate hip displaysia - genetically predisposed to both. She is an excellent candidate for Gold Bead implants, and we are pursuing this option for her. Her success rate is very high because of her age and size, as well as her current mobility. This will also be done in early February.
While the Linda Stoltz Foundation and the SJK Foundation covered the initial expenditures for all of the Nebraska dogs, For the Love of Dog has absorbed several thousand dollars in expenses. Jitter and Taz's surgeries will cost us in the range of $1200 (possibly more) and we do need your help in funding them. Please donate.

The intake cost on these dogs averages at $125 each, plus NH isolation, boarding and updated health certificates at adoption.

Special thanks to Mountain Rottie Rescue volunteers who coordinated this transport, and engaged volunteers all over the east coast.
-- "Thanks to the Hornell Humane Society the last leg of the OH to NH transport has been filled! Thank you For the Love of Dog for taking the pups in! This is a joint effort with multiple volunteers and rescues. Thanks to everyone who helped and tried to help by sharing and asking around! I will post pictures Sat or Sun! I can't wait to meet the dogs and can't thank everyone involved enough!"
