The Dogs Need Wheels .. and we need your help

Many of our adopters know how their family members arrived in New England to complete their family. Most of them arrived by van – from New Orleans, from New York, from New Jersey. Since New Hampshire has, more or less, solved its pet over population (according to the State Vet in 2005), most of the dogs we rescue come from other parts of the north east, and still some come from New Orleans.

In 2005, 102 animals found their way through the doors of this rescue group -- most arriving in a 1994 Dodge mini-van, now with 186,000 miles on it, or in a rented Enterprise cargo van. In the rented vans, there were anywhere from 10 to 25 dogs. We've had as many as 14 dogs in the mini-van (very crowded!). In addition, the van brings the dogs to adoption events, to the vet, and makes it possible to make fewer trips.

And now it's time. It's time for the dogs to have a reliable vehicle. One that will pass inspection in 2007. One that the dogs can call their own. With its broken windshield, rusted out driver's side door, and failed air conditioning , the mini-van that was donated in 2004 just isn't a viable option any longer.

Rescue Statistics:
In 2006 - we brought in 102 dogs and placed 81 (leaving somein foster care at year's end). We spent over $1200 on van rentals, and over $1500 on repairs to the old van.

In 2005 -- we brought in 87 dogs. Van rental expenses would be particularly high because of the multiple trips to New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina relief.

What We Want:
We've been test-driving and pricing out used vans. We are looking at a mid-2000s (2003-2005) cargo van, either Ford E-150 or GMC/Chevy equivalent. The price for what we're looking is about $12,000. I can only hope that they'll take the mini-van as some sort of trade (but I won't hold my breath).

Do you want to make a difference to all of the dogs that need help and need homes? Here's where you can do it! Donations are tax deductable, and along with your peace of mind, rottie or pittie kisses will be enclosed in your acknowledgement from your favorite adoptable pup. Donations can be made via Paypal with your credit card or by check to:
