Giving Tuesday

Dear Friends, Family, and “furever homes,”

November 6, 2023

Friends, Family & “forever homes”

When you envision a “basement in the Bronx” – what do you see? Concrete walls, cold and damp with a small window at the top? Now imagine that with 14 rottweilers in residence. Let us introduce Luna, Mamba, Drago, Nala, Farah, Rocco and Oscar, seven of the “downstairs residents” that were surrendered to the rescue in July. These 7 came with a host of baggage from under socialization to renal failure. While Nala, Farah, Rocco and Oscar have all been adopted, Drago and Mamba are with a wonderful foster family, Luna is receiving supportive care for the loss of 2/3 of her kidney function, which includes IV fluids several times a week and a special diet. Sadly, she is not a candidate for adoption as we don’t know how long she will live with her chronic condition and expensive care.

Janice's mange was so bad -- we had no idea what color she even was when we agreed to take her. But we knew we couldn't leave this 30 lb bully nugget behind with the cutest underbite. It took two months for her fur to grow back and discover she had a wonderful copper colored coat! She continues to wait in foster care for her forever home.

In 2023, we changed the lives of more than 130 rottweilers and pitbulls (and a few “stowaways”) from the Northeast and the deep south by providing foster care, medical attention and, in the end, a place to call their own, forever. Plus, more than half of the 80 rottweilers and 40 pitbulls this year were left to fend for themselves in rural Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Texas. We have rescued more than 3000 animals since our creation in 2004 and helped more than that find rescues in the Northeast via our transports.

The success of this rescue requires many things: committed families to provide the right balance of love and leadership for our dogs in foster care; responsible ownership in the general public for both the rottweiler and pitbull breeds; and support from our adoptive families and friends.

Will you make a difference in an animal’s life today? Your donation will enable us to give a dog another chance at a good life: From dogs that have been loyal companions for most of their lives only to be abandoned in their golden years in a shelter - to dogs that have never felt the safety and love of a family life, only hunger and abandonment.

Could you consider putting a wag or a wiggle in a dog's life?
